Glikojen akantoz, özofagoskopide beyaz plaklar veya yamalar olarak ortaya çıkan, glikojen yüklü skuamöz epitel hücrelerinin varlığı ile karakterize iyi huylu bir durumdur. En sık yemek borusunun orta ve alt üçte birinde görülür.
Kendi başına zararsız bir durum olsa da, ağırlıklı olarak yaşlı bireylerde görülür ve bazen reflü özofajit ve Barrett özofagusu gibi altta yatan diğer özofagus bozukluklarıyla ilişkilidir.
Glikojen akantoz, iyi huylu bir durum olduğu için tipik olarak herhangi bir tedavi gerektirmez. Bununla birlikte, altta yatan herhangi bir durum (GÖRH gibi) buna göre tedavi edilmelidir.
Histolojik olarak tanı, skuamöz epitelin üst üçte birinde artmış glikojenin gözlenmesiyle konur. Periyodik Asit Schiff (PAS) boyama, hücreler içindeki glikojeni görselleştirmek için kullanılabilir.
