Antik Yunancadaki κόκκυξ (kókkux, “guguk kuşu”)
kelimesi guguk kuşunun gagasının
yandan görünüşünü ifade eder. Bu kelimeden türeyen Latincedeki coccȳx ve ardından Fransızcadaki coccyx kelimesi “koksis” kelimesinin dilimize geçmesine neden olmuştur.
